12 grams with a street value of $2000? It's either awful reporting...or the police are awfully bad at estimating street values. Or maybe this is how they continue the war on drugs? Inflate the public image of the work they do?

Here's another example:

http://www.sootoday.com/content/news/full_story.asp?StoryNumber=44427

Street value $2494, are you kidding me? The police are clearly aware of the inflation they seem to give prices for pot because you don't see a pound going for $2494 in this city right now let alone a quarter-pound....the value of this was $900 tops, and even that is an absurd price.

Don't let the police influence your minds with this misinformation....I have kept silent on this subject for a while now, but headlines and "news" like this I can't look past. The police are lying to the public to get more funding to throw more innocent people in jail, and they're doing it openly.

I can honestly say that I am glad that I don't know the cost of pot!  Grin
I guess I mis-spent my time in college studying! LOL

The police use a standardized pricing list approved for use across the province which gets updated and is broken down by type, quantity, and for some drugs quality such as with pot, weather it's bud or left over garbage.  It's too bad to see our "so very knowledgeable" losers in town still keeping a personal track on the cost of what their drugs should go for though.

It's also too bad to see that Soo News has given this loser the time of day in placing the letter on it's news page, way to boost the quality of your news content.  What a loser.

Yes, because not studying and not going to college makes you a loser....come on now.
Michael Dell, founder of Dell computers, dropped out of college at age 19.

Henry Ford, Ford auto, never finished high school.

Bill Gates dropped out of college, at first a leave of absence to form a partnership, that partnership was Microsoft and well...the rest is history and he seems to be doing fine.

Andrew Jackson, 6th U.S. president, never went to college and yet was an army leader and president of the United States.

John D. Rockafeller Sr., Standard Oil, first American billionaire, believed to be richest man in history.

Steven Spielberg was denied entry to film school and dropped out of California State University.

David Bowie may not have finished high school and did not attend college.

Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Mobile, dropped out at 16.

Winston Churchill is another who did not attend college.

Charles Dickens, author, elementary school dropout.

Walt Disney.

Benjamin Franklin.
Robert Frost, poet.
David Geffen, Geffen Records.
John F. Kennedy, dropped out in 1935 before going back and graduating in 1940.
Ralph Lauren.
Abraham Lincoln.
Charles Lindbergh.
George Orwell.
Theodore Roosevelt.
Carl Sandburg.
William Shakespeare.
Dave Thomas.
Harry Truman.
Ted Turner.
Mark Twain.
Theodore Waitt, founder of Gatway computers.
George Washington.
Woodrow Wilson.

Hmmm....nope, not a single successful person has dropped out of college....not a single one.

Do not talk down towards people for enjoying to smoke, you'd be very surprised how many people in the Soo alone do...and perform every day tasks and carry on their normal lives while stoned.

Coming to the forums and being belligerent because the police didn't price a bust properly is laughable at best.

Hmmm, a standard pricing list across he province? No...not for a second will I stand for you 1) insulting me and my intelligence with your slander about me "very knowledgeable" loser...if this were a standard pricing list it would make sense.

Since when is it "standard" to inflate the price of 12 grams from (if you go $10/gram) $120 to $2000? Even if they were to inflate the price to $15/gram it'd be $180....$20/gram would be $240, and so on.

Where, CANVIK, in this province...or anywhere in the world for that matter, do you find 12 grams for $166 a pop? It seems that your "intelligence" has been lost along with your logic.

And again...$2494 is the pricing for a pound, roughly, in this city, other cities will be in the $1200-$1800 range in southern Ontario, cheapest in Ontario. Maybe if they took that $2494 and divided it into quarters, as is supposed to happen when a quarter pound is purchased haha...which would be $623.50 for the quantity seized.

Now tell me, CANVIK, why are these numbers so off? Even if $10/gram was used for the 124 seized, that's only $1240, a staggering $1254 off.

If they had a "standardized pricing list" like you suggest then they would be well aware of these prices and they would be lower, not higher.

Coming to the forums and being belligerent because the police didn't price a bust properly is laughable at best.

There is no belligerence in any way, but it continues to happen and they continue to lie to the public and need to held accountable for it. It is not OK to overstate seizures such as this. It is the equivalent of understating income on taxes, something that is against the law. Perjury, something else against the law, has to be under oath but why then are the police, while on duty, not always under oath? Should they not be held to the same, or higher, expectations?

What is laughable is that no one seems to care about a police force across the country constantly lying to get more money for themselves.

It breaks down like this, they bust small amounts of pot and inflate the prices to get more money for their budget so they can put even more money into busting innocent people. Teachers, lawyers, doctors, etc. are all being wrongfully penalized by the court system and being given criminal records for private matters, that is what is laughable.

Caring about the country you're from and the freedom and safety of the people from it is not what is laughable my friend, it is people like you who seem to want to criticize because it doesn't fit your agenda.

The arguments in defence of marijuana usage are without substance. That is without doubt in me irrespective of legal and/or medical issues.

Ms. Belsito how is one to take your comments seriously after the tirades you've been on?

If it were not a legitimate medicine then why, after 70+ years of stating otherwise, has the American Medical Association decided to reexamine their stance on the matter and even go so far as to recommend the US government remove it from it's classification as a Schedule I substance? (other Schedule I drugs: heroin, LSD...hmmmm, yes these drugs are very similar to pot...THAT is laughable RVB).

Name another drug that is used to treat as many illnesses as medical marijuana, I'll wait...

Canvik - We invite all posters and readers to submit a letter to the editor - Just because you don't agree with somebody's opinion does not make them a loser , anymore than you being a loser for providing your comments to the forums.

There is a little more than opinion stated in that letter.  With the tone and personal nature of the content one could almost be certain that were dealing with a quality "SooToday Police Beat Hero".  That's fair, not a loser then, just my "Hero"!!!  Quality content.....

Canvik, as much as I respect your opinion, the great thing about websites is you don't have to read the content if you don't like it. This person has everyright to to send me a letter to the editor just as much as you or anyone else.

It is clear to me that you are not of credible character.

Well Ms. Belsito, it is your right to think that....but seeing as you do not know me, and I am not the one who takes the need for English lessons to a whole new level, my opinion is that YOU are the un-credible one.

I am going to stay anonymous, so you'll have to take my word for it and believe me on the fact that I've never been charged or arrested for anything in my life, and live an active lifestyle.
