I have a freind who was caught with two snagged pink salmon in his posession over 17 years ago.  He had to go to court.  Plead gilty and was fined $500 dollars and lost the gear he had with him on that trip... As a recreational angler I am absolutly stunned that A Goulais Bay resident, Jeffery Cress, has been "fined $500 for illegal commercial fishing. Approximately 22,000 feet of gillnets and the proceeds from the sale of over 2,000 pounds of seized fish were forfeited to the Crown."  What is the deterent other than losing his gear is there to keep him from doing this again.  This guy should have had the book thrown at him. Recreational fishermen and people concerned with the fish stocks in this area should be very concerned that this guy has got off so easily.   I am all for natives inherent right to make a living off the land but quotas are there to ensure all of us get a opprotuntiy to enjoy the fish of lake supperior and to have idiots like this who think they are entitled really irks me.   Im wondering if he was claiming the money raised from the sales of illegal fish to Revenue Canada.
