
A group that goes by the name of Typically Canadian will be heading into the Sault on Friday, but they are anything but typical.
The group of four young men, aligned with the Firefighters of Canada are traveling by bike to raise money and awareness for Cancer research. Sault Ste. Marie is one of 72 planned stops on their 85 day tour.
The Typically Canadian Tribute Tour cycles into Sault Ste. Marie after completing 3890 kms of their journey consisting of a grueling 8200 km bicycle ride across Canada, starting from Renfrew, British Columbia to St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Sault Ste. Marie Fire Service along with the City Police service will be meeting the group at the north highway city limits sign Friday afternoon and escorted into town. The group will also be traveling to the Relay For Life Friday evening at the John Rhodes Centre at Queen Elizabeth Park.
"they will make a presentation to a “Typical Canadian” who has been touched by the disease, and will pay tribute to brave and courageous individuals in hopes that Canadians will be inspired to get involved in the cancer community" said Tyler Rathwell, a Sault Ste. Marie fire fighter.
The goal of the Typical Canadian Group Tour is to raise more than $720,000 for cancer care lodges, cancer research and cancer programs.
Funds raised locally will be kept in Sault Ste. Marie. Located at all 4 fire stations in Sault Ste. Marie, are Typically Canadian $2 Toonie drop box’s, for the public to drop off small donations. The drop boxes will be left in the fire halls until the TCG reaches St. Johns Newfoundland, larger donations can be made through the typicallycanadian web site.
