In partnership with Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, the Finnish Canadian Cultural Federation and the Sault Ste. Marie Finn Grand Fest Organizing Committee are proud to announce that the Finnish Grand Festival is coming to Sault Ste. Marie July 28 to Aug. 1, 2010.
The Finn Grand Fest 2010 is a combined Finnish Canadian and Finnish American Festival endorsed by the Finnish Canadian Cultural Federation and Finn Fest USA. This is only the third time the event has been held in North America, the others being the Toronto Finn Grand Fest in 2000 and Marquette, Michigan Finn Grand Fest in 2005. This five-day event is
anticipated to draw 5,000 visitors to Sault Ste. Marie from across Canada, the U.S., Finland, Sweden and Australia.
Proposed events include: theatre, concerts, lectures, dances, gala banquets, marketplaces, various sporting events, spiritual programs, arts and crafts displays, and many other activities for people of all ages. The hub of activities will be held at the Essar Centre with other
activities planned at the John Rhodes Community Centre, Queen Elizabeth Field, the Roberta Bondar Park, Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre and the Bushplane Museum.
“Once again, a local organization has risen to the challenge and attracted another city-wide event for Sault Ste. Marie,” says Steve Hollingshead, Tourism Sault Ste. Marie’s Coordinator of Special Projects and Sports Tourism. “Tourism Sault Ste. Marie’s number one priority is to showcase our first-class sports and accommodation facilities to the rest of the world and, together, we are proving that our city is a premier destination for provincial, national and international events. It’s a true honour to host a prestigious international cultural event like this in Sault Ste. Marie.”
