If you use Facebook on a regular basis, you've probably noticed a rash of mysterious posts lately from your female friends. "Black," said one local environmentalist. "Fuscia," said a local reporter. Others included white, hot pink and chocolate brown.
Male Facebook users, meanwhile, are posting things like "what the hell is going on???" and "crazy chicks!" Slowly, awareness of this mysterious campaign is spreading. "Keep 'em coming ladies!" posted one local guy.
Awareness is precisely the goal of this viral social media campaign.
Awareness of breast cancer.
Your lady friends are posting the colour of their bras.
One forum contained the message that is being passed around:
"We're having some fun...put the color of the bra you are wearing in your status (if you are not wearing one now then put the color of the one you had on last or your favorite) let's try to get this going to spread the wings of breast cancer awareness and have some fun w/ the guys!! Send this to all your fb girls--no guys! Lets see how long it takes for the guys to question what is going on!"
The origin of this campaign remains unknown, and there isn't much information on Google about it. There is some chatter on blogs and in forums, but only two news articles about it, published late Thursday. While it's not yet a trending topic on Twitter, a search for "color" brings up thousands of tweets about the campaign.
