Sault College Celebrates its Scholarship Bursary and Awards Winners

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON - March 24, 2010) Last night at the Great Northern Resort and Conference Centre, 250 top students were recognized at Sault College’s 37th annual Scholarship, Bursaries and Awards (SBA) night. In total, $2 million of scholarships, bursaries and awards were distributed to students this academic year, with approximately $175, 000 of that distributed at last night’s event. More than 2400 full-time Sault College students benefit from financial awards.

This year, new donors included the Greg “Powder” King Memorial Award, The Catholic Principals Council of Ontario Award, and the many new awards generated with the proceeds of the 2009 Savour the Night Fundraiser.

The Governor General’s Academic Medal Award, the top award of the evening for highest academic achievement at the College, went to Shelly Nelson Bond, a graduate of the Child and Youth Worker program.

Olive Giroux, a second-year Fitness and Health Promotions student from Blind River with a hearing loss, won the 2009 Bell Canada’s Savour the Night Fundraising Award and gave a moving speech on overcoming challenges and achieving dreams.



Sault College has recognized student achievements through the SBA event for nearly four decades, since 1972/73, with a highly attended and moving event held each year.
